The two of us at the RISE berlin gallery

The Two of Us – Jon John

RISE berlin is pleased to present "The Two of Us" a live performance and exhibition by the French artist Jon John.
With "The Two Us" Jon explores themes of love and loss, the resilience of broken heart and our yearning to heal and love again. For Jon John the act of love is one of the last surviving ecstatic rituals in our disposable society.
As Jon begins his performance he is naked (honest) except for several strings of pearls, he is bleeding via a venous cannula into several empty vials. By his side is a glass of milk and some cut white roses and the floor is covered with a large white cloth. As the audience enters the space each person is given a single pearl. They are invited to place their fingers and the pearl in Jon’s moist mouth. This shared moment of intimacy is somewhere between Holy Communion and a sexual act. Jon uses the milk to swallow the pearl; the moment is sealed. The thirsty roses are placed into the blood filled vials, over time as they drink the petals will change to pink. These romantic symbols become accomplices in this love story.
As the blood continues to flow Jon kneels on the cloth, using the cannula as a makeshift quill he begins to write.
Literally pouring out his heart as a living prayer his " ecrits pourpes" (purple writing). Writing over and over "the 2 of us" a hypnotic mantra each drop filled with emotion a poem, a spell a paean for love. With each sentence Jon becomes weaker.
As the writing covers the cloth Jon’s body protests, by now he has lost a lot of blood, it becomes thicker, sticky and much darker. By this stage breathing is labored, his heartbeat is erratic and a black halo enters his vision, but passion is stronger than the physical body. Jon begins to chant an audio manifestation of his hypnotic poem he continues for as long as he can the performance ends when there is no more to give.
The intense physicality and emotional depth of Jons practice has been thrilling and inspiring international audiences for ten years. Jon draws inspiration from many cultures and religious rituals throughout history. A young veteran of the body modification “scene” Jon has collaborated with notable artist such as Ron Athey, Kiril Bikov and Juano Diaz.
Jon lives and works in Berlin.

The exhibition runs from 06. April - 28. April 2012.

The Two of Us – Jon John

April - 28. April 2012.

"Adam Hays, Adam Hays, Naked in our shop, Adam Hays"*

Damn, it's been a while since i've posted here, and the last time i did post something it just made you guys all sad, so i guess i should get to blogging some fun stuff, right?
We don't have time for a lot of blogging these days. Or fun stuff, for that matter! No, that last part is not true. It's just that black metal march and the black metal art show in Germany is taking up a lot of our time, and although they're both super fun projects, it'll be kind of nice to have them behind us.
The art show is next week, and we'll be driving to Germany with a bunch of paintings and a dog that always needs to pee, so i'll definitely be blogging about that!

So since we're basically at the shop all the friggin time, we're happy that our guest Adam has been booked for the better part of the week too, so we at least got to hang out at the shop. Oh, and there were some late dinners too.
On the days Adam didn't work, he got his back tattooed by Eckel. They started his epic backpiece Wednesday and continued it today, and it's looking pretty amazing already, but you'll just have to take my word for it... or find Adam and make him strip for you.

A couple of the tattoos Adam did at the shop this week, taken from instagram:

Boar on Matthias

I think this is a character from some movie... Star-something...

Here's Adam having super lots of fun getting his butt tattooed today!
And just cause it's so awesome: the cake Allan's client Tom baked for us... it was as delicious as it was evil!

*Should be sung to the tune of "Baby Monkey", cause, well, that's what we did!

HANA TEK - GODOY MACHINES PROFESSIONAL

Hana Tek is a great tattoo artist traveling between the USA and Australia these days. The flawless lines and the custom drawn art put her ahead of most. She has a natural ability that we saw in her years before she started tattooing.

I'm 27 years old and I've tattooed all over the world. I love everything about this job and you'll find me in the shop day and night. I will tattoo in any style, there are no limitations, and I pride my self on dynamic line work and never compromising on perfection or aesthetic - big beautiful saturated colour and lots of illustrative detail. I hate mediocrity. I hate complacency. I love Punk & I like painting glam rock lightening bolts on my face. I push boundaries. It's always a good time in my chair, even when I'm tattooing your ribs. The Godoys have helped me from day one throughout my career and I love using their machines because they reflect everything thats important to me and in tattooing. I make my own needles, my machines are tuned to perfection, and quality is NEVER a question. I know what I'm doing and I wanna do it to you. At the end of April you'll find me at Rites of Passage Convention in Melbourne, where I'm currently nominated in Australia's First Tattoo Industry Awards as Best Female Artist. Help me win it by voting online at the link below!
